| 1. Static - | This is the most basic type of website. It is written in straight HTML there is no database integration. Nothing changes on the site unless a programmer changes the source code. Often referred to as an "online brochure". |
| 2. Database Driven - | This is a more complex website. It is written using languages like ColdFusion, ASP, PHP, Java, etc... There is database integration so that pages can be generated dynamically based on data in the database. Often times an admin area let's a non programmer website owner manage the data in the database. Examples: a chatboard, a product catalog, a registration page, electronic postcard system. |
| 3. E-commerce - | This is the most complex type of website. It requires database integration and a credit card merchant account. An e-commerce website allows the website owner to display products in a catalog and to securely complete a purchase transaction online 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. |
